Arroyo Viejo Creek Clean-Up Day

Bring your gloves, play clothes and your friends and come help us keep our creek clean. Earn some volunteer hours, learn about nature and meet new friends while working at the Arroyo Viejo Creek as an Oakland Zoo Creek Keeper.

The 3rd Saturday of every month, from 10:00am to 12:00pm

Cost and Fees

There is no fee associated with this program.
Parking fee: $8.00 for non-members. FREE for members.

Location

Arroyo Viejo Creek. Please park in the Lower Parking Lot near Maddie's Center for Science and Education. Walk back down towards the Zoo's Parking Ticket Booth (where you entered the Zoo) and meet at the big creek restoration sign.

Additional Program Information
  • We begin with an introduction to watersheds and each other.
  • We work on a variety of tasks that may include: pulling invasive species, spreading mulch, picking up litter, planting natives, clearing paths, cleaning signs.
  • After clean up, Creek Crew participants can come into the zoo as our guests.
  • One adult chaperone is required for every 8 youth volunteers 15 year and younger.
  • Youth who are 16 and 17 years old can come with a waiver signed by a parent.
  • Please dress in layers for the weather.
  • Bring sun hat, sunscreen, water and even a snack.
  • We provide tools and gloves, but if you have your own favorites, please bring them.
