Grab your friends and family and head to the Oakland Zoo for a picnic! Our picnic sites are great for company picnics, family gatherings, birthday parties, or any special occasion. Located just outside the Zoo entrances, one of our 5 sites should be just perfect for your get-together. These sites fill up fast, so make your reservation today!

  • Tiger Timbers: $345.00, max 150 people, 12 tables, 1 3'x8' BBQ pit
  • Lion Lookout: $280.00, max 130 people, 12 tables, 1 3'x8' BBQ pit
  • Camel Creek: $150.00, max 60 people, 5 tables, 2 small BBQ pits
  • Grasshopper Grove: $100.00, max 30 people, 3 tables, 3 small BBQ pits

Reservation Information

To make a reservation complete the Picnic Rental Application and email to email or fax to (510) 735-8840 at least 2 weeks in advance. A non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your desired date and time. This deposit may be charged over the phone or sent via mail. Please make the check payable to: The Oakland Zoo and send to 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland CA 94605. Attn: Picnic Reservation. Your deposit and your balance is due in full 2 weeks prior to your reservation. Please call Group Services & Facility Rentals at (510) 632-9525 x200 for more information or to put down a deposit.


Cancellation Information

If you cancel more than 31 days before your party date you will be refunded the full amount minus a $50.00 cancellation fee. If it is less than 30 days, no refunds will be made. If the Zoo is closed due to rain, a full refund will be issued or rescheduling is available.


Rules and Restrictions

Restrictions: To ensure the safety of all visitors, baseball/softball, astrojumps and dunk tanks are not permitted in the Park. Alcohol is not permitted in The Oakland Zoo or lower park Picnic Areas. Groups will be held responsible for the behavior of all of their guests.

Park Patrol: City of Oakland Park Rangers patrols the lower park area and are empowered to arrest unruly individuals. For the safety of guests and to prevent property damage, no vehicles are allowed onto picnic sites in order to unload their vehicles. There are food stands within the Zoo to provide food/drink service. For the health of our animals, no amplified sound is permitted anywhere in the park. If using Parrot Place for your picnic site, please monitor the activities of your children, particularly near the rides. The Park closes at 5:00pm Please arrange for your picnic guests to leave by this time.

Liability: As noted in the Picnic Reservation Agreement, the Contact Person/Organization shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless the East Bay Zoological Society and their officers, agents, and employees from any and all claims, losses, costs, or liabilities accruing or resulting to any persons, firm, corporation or other public or private entity for damages of any kind including, but not limited to injury, harm, sickness or death, to persons or property from any cause whatsoever arising from or in any way connected with the activity specified. It is understood that by signing the Picnic Reservation Agreement you have read, understood, and will comply with all rules, policies, and terms of the agreement. Also, as noted above, any other unusual activities require prior approval from The Oakland Zoo and proof of adequate insurance.

Equipment Delivery: All deliveries of equipment (e.g. tables, chairs, and portable toilets) are the responsibility of the reserving group. The Oakland Zoo does not accept any responsibility for accepting delivery/safeguarding such items.

Clean-Up: It is the responsibility of the party reserving the picnic site to put any litter in the trash can provided. If the trash can becomes full, any excess garbage should be bagged and placed next to the trash can.

Parking: Please park in designated sites only and do not block fire trails or gates. Parking laws are strictly enforced.


Restrooms

The number and location of restrooms are noted in the Picnic Rental Application. It is the responsibility of the reserving party to ensure that the number of restrooms are adequate and meet code requirements. If the number of rest rooms are inadequate, it is the responsibility of the reserving party to obtain, rent, and pay for the necessary number of portable toilets.


Parking and Admission Fees for the Oakland Zoo

During your visit to Knowland Park, we encourage you to visit The Oakland Zoo. Zoo admission and parking are not included with picnic site reservation.
