East Bay Zoological Society Welcomes New Board Members

The Annual Meeting of the East Bay Zoological Society was held on January 23 and Oakland Zoo members welcomed three new trustees, Jon Balousek, Erik Harris, and Rodrigo Prudencio. Steven E. Kane will continue to serve as the Board Chair and Joel J. Parrott, DVM, as President and CEO.
Jon Balousek is Senior Vice President/General Manager of the multi-billion dollar Specialty Division at the Clorox Company, which includes Cat Litter, Food, Charcoal, Glad, and Brita businesses with responsibility for Sales, Marketing, R&D, Product Supply, and Finance. At Clorox, he has held many leadership positions including Vice President, Marketing and General Manager. During his tenure at Clorox, he has grown mature businesses as well as launched successful new products. Mr. Balousek has also been responsible for recruiting, retaining, and developing key talent.
Mr. Balousek has a BS degree in Communications from the University of California at Los Angeles. He has also been active in leadership positions on several non-profit boards including the Multi-Cultural Institute of Berkeley and the St. Isidore School Foundation. Jon and his wife Jane have three young children and reside in Alamo.
Erik Harris is currently the Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Crescendo Bioscience. Previously, Mr. Harris worked in numerous senior marketing and sales management positions at InterMune, Elan, Genentech and Bristol-Myers Squibb. His professional career started with active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Mission Commander of the Navy's primary maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft and later as a Congressional Fellow and Intern for the Secretary of Defense.
Mr. Harris earned his BS in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA from The Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. He continues to serve on non-profit boards and is the United States Naval Academy's regional admissions representative for the Oakland Unified School District. Harris is currently a resident of Oakland.
Rodrigo Prudencio is the CEO of Hara Software, Inc., a position he assumed in November 2012. Previously, he was a Partner with Nth Power, a San Francisco based venture capital firm focused on investments in energy technology. He is responsible for leading the firm's investments in Synapsense, FirstFuel Software, Hara Software, Thetus, Topanga Technologies and Terrapass.
Prior to joining Nth Power, Mr. Prudencio was Director of Business Development at Utility.com, a retail electricity provider backed by internet incubator Idealab. Earlier in his career, he worked for the U.S. Department of State as a senior aide to the Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs where he focused on a variety of global environmental negotiations, including preparations for the Kyoto round of the Climate Change Convention, and as a Director in the International Programs at the National Wildlife Federation.
Mr. Prudencio received his MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. His bachelor's degree in international relations was earned from Middlebury College in Vermont. He resides in the Rockridge section of Oakland.
