Oakland Zoo Ranks 9th in the SF Business Times “Largest Paid Tourist Attractions in the Bay Area”

We are pleased to announce that the Oakland Zoo has ranked 9th in the San Francisco Times top 25 list of paid tourist attractions in the Bay Area. In 2006 the Oakland Zoo posted 550,000 paid visitors, supported by a staff of 150. 2007 special events include: Animal Amore, Earth Day, Celebrating Elephants, Walk in the Wild, Feast for the Beasts, Member’s Nights, The Ladybug Picnic, Chimpanzee Discovery Day, Boo at the Zoo and ZooLights.
The Oakland Zoo is home to over 440 native and exotic animals in large, naturalistic habitats situated in Knowland Park, a 525 acre park in the Oakland Hills. The Zoo has gained international acclaim and national awards for its natural habitats, animal care and management practices, and conservation programs.
Experience the sights and sounds of the rainforest or go on safari and spot giraffes, African elephants, lions, meerkats and hyenas in a natural environment. As you stroll through the 45-acre Zoo, visit the new Children’s Zoo, featuring alligators; the largest species of bat - the Malayan fruit bat, which sport a 6-foot wing span; the Bug House showcasing everything from black widow spiders to walking sticks; and lots of fun, hands-on exhibits to climb in, on and around!
