Join the Oakland Zoo Creek Crew!

Come to the Arroyo Viejo Creek at the Oakland Zoo and experience the local habitat, while helping it thrive. Grab your gardening gloves and help clean up the creek. We work hard, learn and have fun!

 

People of all ages can experience nature in a safe environment!

  • Connect with your community
  • Learn how to garden
  • Find out which plants are edible
  • See different species of plants
  • Help make this green space grow
  • Learn which animals live near the creek
  • Help kids get connected with nature

Cost: There is no cost to participate. Let the parking attendent know you are working with the Creek Crew.

 

What to Bring and Wear: We will work in rain or shine, so come prepared! Bring sun block, sun glasses, hats, and dress in layers! Wear shoes that can get dirty. Shoes must be close-toed. Don't forget your water and snacks. Gloves and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

  • One adult chaperone is required for every 4 youth volunteers, 13 years of age and younger.
  • One adult chaperone is required for every 8 youth volunteers between 14 - 18 years of age.

  • Enter main entrance of Zoo, turn left after the ticket booth.
  • Park in the lower entrance parking lot.
  • The creek is located to the right of the main entrance, near freeway.
  • Meet at the Arroyo Viejo Creek sign. We start working promptly at 10:00am.
