Docents are knowledgeable volunteers dedicated to bringing the message of animal appreciation and conservation to children and adults. They welcome the opportunity to share their caring and expertise with school classes, youth groups and interested adults. Docent services are free with admission.
Zoo Admission Group Discount
Discount available for groups of 12 or more with Advance Reservations
- Adults: $5.50
- Children (2 to 14) & Seniors (55+): $4.50
- Parking: $6.00 per car, $10.00 per bus
Tours Of The Zoo
Advanced reservation required.
Docents give tours of the Zoo to children as well as adults and youth groups. Groups of up to 40 can be accommodated and are divided into smaller groups for the tour itself. There must be one adult chaperone for each group of eight children. Docent tours are appropriate for children ages 5 and up. The tours can be too lengthy and in-depth for very young children.

Station Days
10:00am - 12:00pm --please call (510) 632-9525 x141 to find out what days of the week stations will be held.
These are days when visitors take self-guided tours of the Zoo, but have the opportunity to interact with docents who are stationed throughout the Zoo with "biofacts" to share with children and adults.
Motorized Tours (For physically challenged visitors)
Two weeks minimum advance reservations are required for a wheelchair accessible motorized tour. Trained docents take guests on a tour of the Zoo in specially equipped electric carts. Most exhibits and areas of the Zoo are accessible. Please call (510) 632-9525×142 to make your reservation.
