OAKLAND ZOO: Condor Exhibit Unveiled in Maddie’s Center for Science and Education at Oakland Zoo.

Did you know the California Condor has a wingspan of 10 feet and weighs 22 pounds? Friday, October 10, 2008 - Tuesday, December 4, 2008 join the Oakland Zoo and the Ventana Wildlife Society for a special reception from 5:30pm- 7:30pm. Learn about the largest land bird in Northern California. Oakland Zoo presents “Bringing Condors Home” an exhibit on loan from the Ventana Wildlife Society. The display explores the many issues surrounding bringing condors back from the brink of extinction, including captive breeding programs, threats to the birds’ survival, and monitoring programs for wild populations. The exhibit is greatly enhanced by a 360 degree panoramic photo that lets the visitor experience prime condor habitat first hand.

Can’t make tonight’s reception? That’s okay; the “Bringing Condors Home” exhibit will be on display in Maddie’s Center for Science and Education at Oakland Zoo during regular Zoo hours through December 11, 2008. For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact Nancy Filippi, Director of Marketing at (510) 632-9525, ext 132.
