**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** January 21, 2010
The Oakland Zoo Welcomes Tree Donations
The Oakland Zoo may have a solution to fallen tree problems. Bay Area residents can donate their trees to the animals. Currently, the Oakland Zoo has a full-time browse keeper who collects trees and plants for the elephants. If you have fallen trees in your yard, we may be able to help you. Our animals love certain types of trees. Please take a look below for details on what types of trees our animals enjoy.
OAKLAND ZOO BROWSE LIST AND CONTACT INFORMATION
Tree branches and leaves (browse) are used as food and/or toys by many of our zoo animals. We can sometimes pick up cut trees in the East Bay but more often donations must be delivered. By delivering to the zoo you will save the fee associated with disposing of tree branches at the dump. These two lists represent plants and trees that people usually contact us about.
If you have something that is not on the list please contact us. To watch an interview with Elephant Manager Jeff Kinzley regarding tree donations, check out the CBS5 link: http://bit.ly/c1lLBa
