FRIENDS OF THE WILD!
The Oakland Zoo is home to some of the world's most unique and fascinating wildlife. It is a special place where you can experience first-hand the thrill of zebra romping in the morning sun, gibbons calling from the tree-tops and elephants playfully splashing in a waterhole.
Do you want to help support the animals? Our Friends of the Wild Annual Fund is a yearly giving program established to insure the health and well-being of all the animals at the Zoo. This program provides the critical funding necessary to cover rising animal food and care costs incurred each year. It costs $4,000 a year to feed one African elephant. Our pride of six lions costs $10,800 per year. These figures do not even include keeper salaries or veterinary care.

Today, the Zoo's educational programs serve over 50,000 school children annually throughout the Bay Area and the demand for quality environmental education continues to grow each year.
