  Pricing 

Monday through Thursday:

Three (3) consecutive hours available between 8:00am - 12:30am. Rental time starts when building is opened for renter. Three (3) hour minimum rental.

Rental Fee: $200
Each additional hour: $25

*Prices Include: Set-up and basic clean-up

NOTE: After 5:00pm there is an additional fee of $30 per hour for on-site security.

Reservation Deposit: $75.
(deposit also serves as the refundable damage/clean-up deposit)

Weekends and Holidays (Friday through Sunday):

  Terms 

NO GAMBLING IS ALLOWED

 

Important Note:

Rental time is calculated on a basis of use of the building; therefore, please include time needed for caterer's set-up, decorating, clean-up, etc. Rental rates apply to all groups, organizations and private parties. There are no discounts/exemptions available. Renters must be 21 years old to rent the building. The East Bay Zoological Society reserves the right to require the renter to provide security guards. Noise levels must be kept to a minimum so as not to disturb the neighbors of the Zoo's animals. Renters will be held responsible for the behavior of all their guests. BALANCE OF ALL FEES ARE DUE AND PAYABLE ONE (1) MONTH PRIOR TO THE EVENT.

Clean Up and Damage

The renter is responsible for any damage to the building, missing equipment/items provided with the building, or excessive debris/mess that requires extra clean-up. In the event the amount is greater than the damage and reservation deposits, the renter will be billed for the difference.

Refunds

No refund of the damage/clean-up and reservation deposits will be made if there is notable damage or unclean conditions to the Center and/or itsproperties; if building property is stolen; or there is excessive noise from music and/or guests which cause disturbance to the park's neighbors or the zoo's animals. No refund of the damage/clean-up and reservation deposits will be made if the renter fails to vacate premises at the time designated on the rental agreement.

Cancellations

The East Bay Zoological Society reserves the right to cancel reservationsfor failure to comply with the East Bay Zoological Society's rules, regulations, and conditions specified on the rental agreement, or any condition that renders the building unsafe for public use, or if there is a need for major maintenance or repair to the structure or equipment. A service charge of $50 will be deducted from the reservation deposit in the event of cancellation. If the event is cancelled less than two (2) months before the scheduled date, even if originally scheduled less than two (2) months in advance, the reservation deposit will not be refunded.

  Parking 

Parking

Each car pays $7.00 to park or you can pre-pay with group services for $3.00 per car. The parking fee applies only during Zoo hours on weekends and holidays. Parking near Maddie's Center for Science and Environmental Education is neither reserved nor guaranteed.

  Seating 

Tables and Chairs

There is a maximum of 12 round tables (approximately 6" in diameter) and 100 padded chairs for renter's use.
No other equipment is provided. The renter does not have use of the zoo's audio/visual equipment.

No storage is provided at any time. All equipment, supplies, etc., must be taken each time the building is left. The
Zoo is not responsible for any left items.

A diagram of the Marian Zimmer Auditorium is provided; it should be used to indicate the arrangement of tables and chairs for the renter's event. The diagram must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event for set-up purposes. Any special instructions should also be noted on the diagram.

  Insurance 

Liability Insurance

You must have in force a comprehensive general liability insurance policy to include bodily general liability, property damage liability, and personal injury coverage for the event at a minimum of $300,000. It must be kept in force at all times during the tenure of this agreement. All policies required here under shall name the East Bay Zoological Society as an additional insured.

  Security 

Knowland Park Gates

Knowland Park is operated by the East Bay Zoological Society, and park security is provided by the Society. All exterior park gates are usually closed and locked at dusk. However, Security Staff will assure, during scheduled event times, that gates will remain open.

Security

After 5:00pm, renters reserving the Maddie's Center are required to have one (1) Zoo Security Officer at the rate of $30.00 per hour when 25 to 100 guests are attending and there is no alcohol being served. If over 100 guests in attendance and/or alcohol will be served, two (2) Zoo Security Officers will be required at the rate of $60.00 per hour. Security coverage must begin when guests are expected to arrive and proceed through the conclusion of contracted rental period.

  Functions 

Public Functions

For any event with over fifty (50) people attending, you must obtain a city permit; contact the Oakland Police Department at least four (4) weeks prior to the event, by calling (510) 238-3154. There is no charge for permit.

When tickets are being sold to the public for an event involving dancing, the City of Oakland requires a Dance Permit. Dance Permits maybe obtained at the Oakland Police Department Patrol Division, 7th and Washington Streets, (510) 238-3154.

State law requires a permit for the sale of liquor. Liquor permits may be obtained at Alcohol Beverage Control, 1515 Clay Street, Suite 2208, Oakland, (510) 622-4970. Permits must be obtained twenty (20) days before the reservation date. A copy of the rental agreement or a letter from the Society office must be presented when applying for liquor permits. Permits must be posted in the building during the event. No person under the age of 21 years of age may enter the building when liquor is being sold.

Youth Functions

Events involving groups with the majority of attendees comprised of 13-20 year olds. This includes, but is not limited to, school dances, school functions, quincineras, graduation parties, etc.

NOTE: Alcohol is strictly prohibited at any Youth Event booked in the Maddie's Center. There are no exceptions. In addition, the Oakland Zoo requires two (2) security guards at all Youth Events.
