The Gondola Helper assists with routine duties in the maintenance and repair of the Oakland Zoo Arial Lifts and other maintenance projects as assigned. This position requires work on weekends, holidays and occasional overtime as deemed necessary by the Department Supervisor. Upholds the mission and values established the Conservation Society of California (the “Zoo”) and adheres to policies and procedures as set forth by the Zoo.
Assist Lead Tech. with and inspect mechanical devices and the repair of mechanical devices daily.
Assist Lead Tech. with and inspect electrical devices and the repair of electrical devices daily.
Ability and willingness to learn Arial Systems (the Gondola and Sky Ride) as well as the other mechanical rides in the Zoo.
Demonstrates superior customer service with customers, both internal (i.e. co-workers) and external (vendors, visitors, customers, etc).
.Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, the East Bay Zoological Society’s mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of behavior.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Must be willing to read, understand manuals
Ability to exercise sound judgment, be a self-starter and work under supervision of Lead gondola Tech.
Basic knowledge/skill/ability needed in the mechanical trade.
Basic knowledge/skill/ability needed in the electrical trade.
Able to bend and twist, lift, stand, kneel, sit, walk, bend, stoop and speak regularly and for long periods of time (8 hour shifts)
Must be able to work on towers and at heights
Availability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays at short notice
High school diploma or GED or greater
Ability to read and write clearly in English
Trade school experience a plus
2 years in mechanical trades (auto, machinery repair or machining)
Basic knowledge/skill/ability needed in the welding trade.

Fall protection and Rescue
Must be willing to attend training as needed
