The Gondola Tech. assists with routine duties in the maintenance and repair of the Oakland Zoo Arial Lifts and other maintenance projects as assigned. This position requires work on weekends, holidays and occasional overtime as deemed necessary by the Department Supervisor. Upholds the mission and values established the Conservation Society of California (the “Zoo”) and adheres to policies and procedures as set forth by the Zoo.
Abilityto read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports andcorrespondence.
Responsiblefor performing all routine and assigned maintenance per A.N.S.I., manufacturer,and CSC Lift Department standards.
Responsiblefor communicating to the Lift Manager to immediately inform and consult him/heron all abnormal or unusual conditions, incidents, observations or systemmalfunctions.
PerformsGondola startup procedures upon qualification in Gondola dynamics and potentialsafety related conditions.
PerformsEvacuation Engine hook-ups and Gondola operation using Evacuation Drive system.
Documentstramway maintenance per the A.N.S.I. Code. Participates in Gondola projects,inspections, procedures and check lists.
Maintainsa clean shop and keeps tools in top condition.
Usesassigned tools, rigging equipment, tramway components, oils, greases, andsafety equipment in a safe, efficient manner.
Assistsin cable splicing, cable installation, and/or replacement. Assists contractorsin performing their duties.
Inspects,measures, changes, rebuilds and adjusts Gondola components. Checks oil inreducers and all gear type units. Greases bearings, bushings and slidingsurfaces.

Must be willing to read, understand manuals
Ability to exercise sound judgment, be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
Advanced knowledge/skill/ability needed in the mechanical trade.
Advanced knowledge/skill/ability needed in the electrical tradeA
Able to bend and twist, lift, stand, kneel, sit, walk, bend, stoop and speak regularly and for long periods of time (8 hour shifts)
Must be able to work on towers and at heights
Availability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays at short notice
High school diploma or GED or greater
Trade school experience desired
Educated in Gondola systems maintenance highly desired
ANSI B77.1 2011
3-5 Years industry experience
Basic knowledge/skill/ability needed in the welding trade.
3-5 years in Gondola specific maintenance of controls, mechanical, electrical, operational and documentation
3-5 years experience in rigging
Lock Out / Tag Out procedures
Fall protection and Rescue
Must be willing to attend training as needed
