Overview

ZooCamp is a summer day camp program run by the Education Department at Oakland Zoo. Each session is one week long and programs repeat multiple times each summer. The ideal candidate for this position has a love for young children and animals. Prior experience working with elementary school students in day camp or childcare settings is required.Formal training in biology, zoology, ecology, or environmental science is especially desirable. For summer 2020, we have eight open positions working with our campers in grades Pre-K-8th.

Responsibilities

 

Essential Job Duties

·        Utilize the zoo and the beautiful surrounding park and creek to introduce campers to animals and nature through science projects, art, games, exploration, and observation.

·        Implement imaginative, fun, hands-on, STEM/project based activities that are centered on animals, conservation, and ecology (based on the given themes).

·        Leave campers with a greater sense of ecological wonder, connection, respect and stewardship.

·        Mentor Teen Assistant volunteers in the skills required to work successfully with young children
