Zoo Ambassadors

The purpose of Zoo Ambassadors is to support the mission of the Oakland Zoo and Volunteer Services by being of service to zoo guests, volunteers, and staff. Zoo Ambassadors assist guests and enhance the guest experience, providing the highest level of customer service.

Responsibilities:‍

  • Greet zoo guests
  • Station throughout the zoo to guide guests and answer questions (wayfinding, amenities, etc.)
  • Assist with special events (preparations, collect tickets, direct guests)

Skill Requirements/Qualifications:‍

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Readiness to greet and assist all guests

Time Commitment:‍

  • Minimum commitment of six months
  • Minimum commitment of 120 hours per year to retain Zoo Ambassador status

Training:

  • Volunteers must attend 3 days of training.

Cost:‍

  • Zoo Ambassador training fee is $50.
  • Uniform shirts are purchased by volunteers. Nametags are provided by the zoo.
