How do I register my child for camp?

You can sign up for ZooCamp online, using our secure registration service, Camp and Class Manager. Registration is easy, and now you can register your child for multiple programs conveniently. Payment by credit card is required. Visa, Mastercard, and Discover are accepted.

When does registration open?

Spring Break ZooCamp

Registration opened at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

Summer ZooCamp

Camp information will be posted in February 2018.

Thanksgiving Break ZooCamp

Please check back in Fall 2018.

Winter Break ZooCamp

Please check back in late 2018.

My child requires assistance. May I accompany my child to camp?

Classes are designed for children to participate independently; parents are not allowed to stay with their children. However, if your child has diagnosed special needs and is unable to participate without an aide, please contact us to discuss accommodations. Vickie Kay Memorial ZooCamp Scholarship Fund for Summer ZooCamp

How are scholarships awarded?

Summer ZooCamp scholarships are awarded based upon availability of funds and each family’s financial need.

How much of the registration fee is covered?

Scholarship awards cover up to 80% of the standard registration fee.

How do I apply?

Special Friend Requests

My child wants to attend camp with a friend. Will they be in the same class?

Each camper may request one friend to attend camp with during the registration process. Special friends must register for the same session dates and the same program, and both children must request each other. We will do our best to place special friends in the same class, but please know we will split up groups larger than three in order to encourage participants to make new friends and to ensure campers who come without a special friend feel included.

Age Requirements

Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break and Spring ZooCamps

What ages are eligible to attend?

Participants must be currently enrolled in kindergarten through fifth-grade. Our youngest participants must be currently enrolled in a kindergarten class or transitional kindergarten program. If you register a camper who is ineligible to participate, your registration will be canceled.

Summer ZooCamp

What ages are eligible to attend?

Programs are available for pre–K through eighth-grade campers.

What is the minimum age for attendance?

Children who will attend pre–K or kindergarten in the fall, are eligible for Busy Beasts camp. Campers must be at least 4 years old by January 1st, 2018 and they must be potty trained.

Is documentation of age required for Busy Beasts?

Yes, once your camper is registered for Busy Beasts, you have two weeks to provide documentation of your camper’s birth date to the Oakland Zoo  (birth certificate or medical record) in order to confirm your registration. Failure to provide proof of age within two weeks of completing your online registration will result in the cancellation of your registration.

Camp Session Transfers

May I transfer my child from one camp session to another?

If you contact us more than eight days before your child's camp session begins—and space is available in the desired session—there is no fee or penalty for transferring from one session to another. We are unable to make transfers within eight days of a camp session. Call the ZooCamp Hotline at (510) 632-9525 ext. 280 or email us to request a transfer.

Note: If you register for a new session online before you cancel your original registration, the standard cancellation fees apply.

May I transfer my child from one ZooCamp seasonal program to another?

No transfers between ZooCamps are permitted. For example, if you enroll your child in Summer ZooCamp, the registration cannot be transferred to  Thanksgiving Break ZooCamp, or any other program.

Extended Care

How do I register my child for extended care?

You can sign up and pay for extended care when you register for ZooCamp.

How many children can you accommodate?

We can accommodate a maximum of 25 campers before camp and 40 after camp. Regrettably, if all spaces are booked, we cannot accommodate additions.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Where do I drop off my child for camp?

Please go to the Lower Entrance; drop off and pick up occur at Maddie’s Center for Science and Environmental Education. Parking fees are waived for people who are dropping off or picking up ZooCamp participants.

What should I bring to camp?

Please bring a healthy lunch and 2 separate snacks, each labeled with the camper’s name.

Cancellation and Refund Policies

Are membership fees refundable?

Zoo membership fees are non refundable.

Are any portion of camp fees refundable?

Cancel 14 days or more before the first day of your child's camp session, and receive a refund equal to 90% of the total balance.

Cancel 8 to 13 days before the first day of your child's camp session, and receive a refund equal to 50% of the total balance.

A cancellation made less than 8 days before the first day of your child's camp session, is not eligible for a refund.

If you take advantage of our two-payment plan, the percentages above apply to your total camp fees, not the deposit paid.

Are refunds available for absences?

No refunds are issued due to camper absences, including absences due to illness.

May I transfer my child's registration to another party?

Registrations are non transferable.

Weather Policy

Is camp canceled when weather is bad?

No, camps are conducted rain or shine.
