About the Position
Pay Range: To maintain internal equity, we have identified the starting range for this position at the Oakland Zoo as $25 - $26 per hour. An offer within this range will be determined by the experience and qualifications of a candidate and will be our best and final compensation offer.
*This is a temporary position lasting for 1 year from the start date*
The Marketing Assistant will assist and coordinate the specific marketing initiatives and efforts of Oakland Zoo. The position will collaborate with multiple departments throughout the organization. As a member of the marketing team, this position supports the team’s daily functions and projects. This position is expected to uphold the mission and values established by the Oakland Zoo and adhere to policies and procedures.

ApplyEssential Job Duties
- Support Marketing Team with routine functions.
- Update, monitor, and act as a moderator on content platforms (Review platforms, YouTube, social media, blogs, etc.).
- Support the Marketing team to plan, coordinate, and assist with on-site and off-site events.
- Serve as a member of the internal Social Media Team.
- Prepare social media and website analytics and reporting.
- Support with gathering and organizing content (photos/videos).
- Support in hosting news crews, reporters, or other relevant parties.
- Assist and support with signage projects.
- Support the maintenance of Zoo website and digital signage.
- Act as a team liaison at interdepartmental meetings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and supports, Oakland Zoo’s mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and codes of behavior.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Who You Are
- At least one year of relevant experience
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Open, collaborative communication style
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and learn other software programs as needed
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge and comfortability with various social media platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or related programs.
- Able to successfully adjust writing style for promotional, informational, technical and online projects
- Proficiency in navigating web-based platforms and utilization of a computer for daily tasks
- Superior customer service with internal and external customers
- Driver’s license (required to drive zoo vehicles)
Bonus if you have:
- Completed coursework in marketing, digital media, public relations, or other related field
- Knowledge and/or experience with conservation, zoology, wildlife, or environmental topics
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Analytics, Dropbox, and/or marketing software
